Most Europeans don't understand the fascination behind American football, saying that God intended for a ball to be round -- and what's with all the interruptions ? Americans, in turn, find the back-and-forth of the checkered soccer ball for twice 45 minutes boring.

I think those games represent the lifestyle on either side of the Atlantic. Soccer is steady with very few sudden bursts of actions. It's a safe game with no commercial breaks. American football has men in helmets, half-naked cheerleaders dancing to rap; it's a game as much as a show. It stops for 90 seconds, then it goes intensely for 20.

It's like you feel you're on top of the world when you're in training to be one of the youngest B767 captain. But then, your company suddenly closes on Christmas Eve. You're standing in the unemployment line with your son and a pain in your stomach. We'll be back after these messages.
